Stove Top Cookware
With energy bills continuing to rise, we are constantly being asked “Can I use my woodburning stove to cook on? The answer will depend on the stove and your set-up. For example you can’t cook atop stoves with a canopy. But, in simple terms, Yes, you can use the warmth generated from your woodburner to heat, toast and cook some tasty treats.
Results will vary between stoves. For example, cast iron surfaces will take longer to heat than steel, but will retain the warmth for much longer. Stoves that have a boiler fitted, will find it harder to achieve a temperature on the top of the stove to cook due to thermal loss. When cooking on top of the stove we suggest using a trivet to protect the top of your stove. We also suggest taking necessary safety precautions when moving and using hot pans on hot surfaces – including wearing suitable gloves/mitts.
